Pressure Vessel Modification and Certification Services

Credible Corporate Services is here to guide you through every step of the PESO certification process for pressure vessels in India. Recently, PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization) has made amendments to its regulations issued on September 2022, permitting modifications to the carrying capacity of mobile pressure vessels under certain circumstances.

This development is important for businesses in petrochemical, oil and gas, and chemical manufacturing industries in terms of meeting safety and regulatory requirements.

Why Modify Pressure Vessels?

PESO recommends new pressure vessels be manufactured for a higher capacity, but it admits that existing vessels from 18 MT to 21 MT can be modified under certain conditions. This gives business an economical solution since modification of existing pressure vessels is cheaper than manufacturing entirely new vessels. However, modifications should be done with safety, design integrity, and compliance in mind.

Key Conditions for Pressure Vessel Alteration

The new guidelines have specified the following conditions for alteration of pressure vessels:

The pressure vessel should have been fabricated in the last three years. A Certificate of Control must be submitted to prove the original construction of the vessel.

Only the OEM is allowed to conduct the alteration and seek PESO approval.

Manufacturers have to submit new design calculations, design appraisals, and drawings to PESO for approval.

No repair, modification, or alteration should be done unless and until PESO has approved the method of execution.

The manufacturer and the purchaser need to agree to the design modification on paper, even before such changes are made.

To get a re-usability certificate, the modified pressure vessel should undergo and pass non-destructive testing.

The pressure vessels which have corrosion marks are not eligible for modification.

New couplings and safety fittings must be installed on the modified pressure vessel to minimize wear and tear.

Once the changes are approved and sanctioned by PESO, the vessel will be given a new vessel number for easy identification.

PESO Certification: Safety and Compliance

PESO certification ensures that pressure vessels meet the essential safety features and comply with Indian regulations. PESO is essential for the operation of pressure vessels in industries involving hazardous materials or high-pressure systems. Businesses can significantly reduce risks arising from stress, fatigue, corrosion, and cyclic loading by following PESO guidelines to ensure that pressure vessels maintain safety and a long lifespan.
